Humanist Cafe – 21 August 2019 – TRUMP:  HOW DO WE STOP THIS FASCISM?

 

Where were you the night Trump took the White House?  You remember the shock and fear.  Now it is nearly three years on and things are not much better.  A resistance at home and abroad is growing but will it be enough to save democracy in America? What can we do here in Canada to protect our interests and even our future?

 

Our humanist vision has been confronted in the past by far more dangerous threats.  Let us turn to our principles to guide us.  Let us relearn all the wisdom we can from our mistakes and successes.  We issued in the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, and the Scientific Revolution against tremendous opposition.  Yet we went on, despite the long odds, and won a brighter future.  Surely these achievements should give us hope to prevail over the ideology and idiocy of the new fascism embodied in the ‘billionaire’ Donald Trump?
